Youthmakers Hub visits youth-led organizations in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana, Kenya

While in Turkana, Kenya, Youthmakers Hub visited the Kakuma Refugee Camp on 22 May 2025 to engage directly with the young people and their grassroots youth-led initiatives. This visit was a testament to the strong relationships and trust established during the training, as Youthmakers Hub met with six inspiring organizations created and managed by the very young leaders who had participated.

During the visit, the Youthmakers Hub team connected with:

  • Girl Power Action Initiative, which champions girls’ education, menstrual health, and financial independence through sewing classes.
  • Binadamu Tech, which fosters entrepreneurship and creative skills by teaching handmade football production.
  • FabLab – University of Geneva (InZone), which provides access to essential learning tools, including 3D printing and robotics education.
  • Scorpion Control Center, an initiative focused on raising awareness and safety measures for protection from venomous animals in the camp.
  • Season of the Time Media Production (STMP), which empowers youth with digital media and filmmaking skills to tell their own stories and advocate for their communities.
  • Inspire the Hands Creation Initiative (IHCI), which supports young single mothers through jewelry making and sexual health education.

Throughout the visit, the Youthmakers Hub team shared opportunities available through the AU-EU Youth Lab programme, including microgrant funding from the Youth Voices Third-Party Mechanism and free learning and networking via the Youth Voices Lab App. Together with the young people of Kakuma, the team exchanged insights and experiences, taking group photos and pledging to nurture and sustain these newfound connections.

This visit strengthened Youthmakers Hub’s commitment to supporting youth-led change and highlighted the creative power and resilience of young people driving grassroots impact in their communities.
