Rethinking quality in Higher Education: Insights from Garissa with the 3is project

From May 26 to 29, 2025, Youthmakers Hub had the privilege of joining partners in Garissa, Kenya, for the 3is project workshop on “A more integrated higher education system in the region”, a milestone gathering to explore how higher education can better serve remote and marginalized communities. Hosted by our partners in Garissa University, the sessions focused on quality assurance, micro-credentials, and regional integration, providing participants with an opportunity to share their unique experiences and collectively shape more inclusive educational futures.

For Youthmakers Hub, this workshop reinforced the value of centering local perspectives and ensuring that policies and practices reflect the realities of the communities they aim to serve. Engaging with university representatives and experts from across East Africa provided fresh insights into how universities can become engines of both academic excellence and social transformation.
