Let’s Talk about the EU | November 2023
On November 22nd, Youthmakers Hub facilitated a Euroclass in the context of the EU Elections 2024, funded by Eurodesk and the EU. The session, facilitated by Pinelopi Katsigianni, Project Manager at Youthmakers Hub, was a dynamic and interactive experience, immersing participants in a journey to understand and feel the European Union’s impact on their lives.
The event started with a geographical challenge, requiring participants to work collaboratively in small groups to identify EU countries on a political map of Europe. This initial activity aimed to cultivate awareness of the diverse membership within the EU, setting the stage for a deeper exploration.
The next phase of the Euroclass involved a comprehensive overview of EU institutions. Participants delved into the intricacies of the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, and the European Commission. This foundational knowledge gave the participants a solid understanding of the critical structures shaping EU policies.
Shifting from the institutional to the personal, the Euroclass transitioned to a more intimate perspective. In small groups, participants explored the tangible effects of EU actions on their daily lives, focusing on areas such as education, mobility, local environment, and rights. This hands-on exercise encouraged participants to identify and share examples, fostering a nuanced understanding of the EU’s role in their contexts.
The workshop reached its climax with a creative expression segment. Participants were tasked with crafting banners that conveyed messages to the EU, providing a platform for them to voice their opinions on potential changes at various levels. This creative outlet empowered participants to actively engage in a dialogue with the EU and express their perspectives.
In summary, the Euroclass successfully combined educational elements, personal reflections, and creative expression. The session enhanced their knowledge of EU structures and policies by fostering a deeper connection between participants and the EU. It empowered them to play an active role in shaping their collective future. This holistic approach demonstrated the effectiveness of combining various learning methods to create a meaningful and impactful educational experience.
