Breaking Barriers: Pioneering African Student’s Erasmus+ Journey at the University of Piraeus
In the spring of 2019, we were delighted to welcome Joseph Thukia Wanjiku, a Master’s student from the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Kenyatta University, to the University of Piraeus. This was a significant milestone, as Joseph was the first African Erasmus+ student at the University of Piraeus. This achievement was made possible through the WE AfriHug project, which we implemented in Kenya in 2018. The project aimed to bridge the gap between African and European educational institutions, and this partnership between Kenyatta University and the University of Piraeus was a direct result of that initiative. Joseph’s exchange semester in Greece was not just about academic learning; it was also about cultural exchange, personal growth, and building international relationships. His journey is a testament to our commitment to fostering global connections, promoting diverse educational experiences, and breaking down barriers to international mobility. We believe that these experiences are invaluable in shaping the leaders of tomorrow, and we are proud to have played a part in Joseph’s journey.
