On 25 August 2026, Youthmakers Hub Kenya, in partnership with ELF-Africa, delivered a two-hour virtual training on Introduction to Public Policy and the Policy Cycle for 10 members of ELF-Africa’s Policy Working Group.

Facilitated by Dr. Eddah Kipchumba of Kenyatta University, representing Youthmakers Hub Kenya, the session focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of public policy and the policy-making process in Kenya.

Participants explored the different stages of the policy cycle, the roles of key policy actors and institutions, and practical approaches to policy analysis. The training also examined how citizens and young people can engage in policy processes, helping participants identify practical entry points for participation and understand how basic policy analysis tools can be applied to real policy issues.

By connecting policy concepts with practice, the session aimed to strengthen the Policy Working Group’s capacity to understand, analyse, and engage with policy processes more effectively. The activity also reinforced the collaboration between Youthmakers Hub Kenya and ELF-Africa around capacity building, youth participation, and policy engagement.

Reflecting on the training, participant Derrick Kubai from the ELF-Africa Policy Working Group shared:

“This has been really insightful. I have learned to understand the various tools that are implemented in the formulation of a good policy, and some of the measures that are taken in considering whether a policy might actually suffice for the people or not.”

Through activities like this, Youthmakers Hub Kenya continues to support young people and youth-focused organisations with practical knowledge and tools for informed participation and evidence-informed advocacy.
