HORIZON 2020

AfriConEU

The AfriConEU project essentially strengthens and reinforces the digital innovation ecosystems in Africa by targeting existing Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) and supporting them through capacity building and networking activities. African DIHs are playing a central role in the development of digital entrepreneurship. By raising their capacities to tackle the challenges, they will be more effective in driving digital innovation.

The project develops, tests, and validates the “AfriConEU Networking Academy,” an innovative mechanism for connecting and sharing best practices, experiences, and resources between DIHs in Africa and between DIHs in Africa and the EU in a comprehensive, replicable, and self-sustaining way. Through two flagship programs, the AfriConEU Networking Academy empowers African DIHs to serve their local industry best, boosts their Startup ecosystem and empowers the youth population with the necessary skills to thrive in a digitalized world.

The activities under this programme are:

A series of webinars, local workshops, and masterclasses that aim to raise the capacities of African DIHs in serving in the best ways their own needs and long-term sustainability as well as the needs of local SMEs, Startups and young people with an emphasis on women and people from marginalized backgrounds.

The “AfriConEU Brokerage Event” aims to encourage meetings, collaboration, and sharing of different experiences between European and African innovative ecosystems to contribute to developing new projects and strategic partnerships. The main goal of the two-day event is to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing between the African and European innovation ecosystems which is achieved through presentations and interaction/brainstorming discussions.

AfriConEU, in the framework of the AfriConEU Networking Academy, organizes a series of captivating Bootcamps in four remarkable African countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Ghana. At the AfriConEU Networking Academy Bootcamps, the project is committed to igniting the innovative spirit of the participants and fostering a culture of collaboration. These bootcamps aim to co-design collaborative projects to revolutionize the connected digital innovation and start-up ecosystem.

The AfriConEU Capitalization Event in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal, represents the peak of the project’s efforts to foster collaboration between Africa and Europe in the field of digital innovation and networking. This four-day event is designed to bring together the AfriConEU community, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and showcasing various approaches within the digital innovation ecosystem.
